Show i ' I MOUNTS A SHAKY THRONE Sultan Ahmed Mirza, the sixteen-year-old shah of Persia, on attaining his official majority the other day, took the constitutional oath of office in the palace of the national council at Teheran. The ceremony took place in the presence of the members of the national council, the royal princes, high state officials, foreign diplomatic representatives and their wives. The little shah, accompanied by the regent, Abdul Kassim Khan Nes-ser Nes-ser El Mulk, drove to the palace of the national council in a glass coach drawn by eight white horses. Large bodies of police and troops were stationed sta-tioned in strategic positions along the route. The Persia of today is only a shadow of the once powerful empire of ancient times. Ahmed Mirza, who succeeds his father on the throne, is a mere puppet iff the hands of England and Russia, without any real power. Russia practically owns the northern half of the country, while England took the southern half, when the former MThah was driven from the throne and. kept a prisoner in Russia. |
