Dr. Macdonald of the South African department of agriculture agricul-ture declares that it is now possible to grow a "rainless wheat" that is to say, a crop upon which no single drop of rain has fallen between seed time and harvest. It does not maintain main-tain its existence without moisture, but al! that Is necessary is obtained from the deposit of a previous season in "moisture saving fallows." This would mean a great boon for those areas where the rainfall is uncertain un-certain and Irrigation, for various reasons, rea-sons, Impossible. |
