Wheeler of the Dnion Trust company and ex-president of the Chicago Association of Commerce, has bepn unanimously elected president of the National Chamber of Commerce. This committee consists of twenty-live twenty-live members from all sections of the United States, and will he the governing gov-erning body of the association, having charge of practically all executive matters. Under the organization the National Chamber of Commerce of the United States will consist ot more than liCO delegates from commercial organizations organiza-tions of every character, including chambers ot commerce, boards ot trades, commercial clubs, merchants ana manual cturers associations, and national associations representing several sev-eral commercial interests. The by-laws ot the new organization provide for methods ot disclosing through a system ot referendum, the commercial opinion ot the United States on questions , which are deemed by the directorate to be ot national importance. No matters of purely local interest will be within the scope ot the Interet of this new organization, and the directors state that "the power anii mfiuence of the new body will b3 placed behind any proposition when a substantial majority of the commercial associations of the United States have : shown themselves to be in agreement." The directors were authorized to apply tor a federal Incorporation for -fhe organization. ! |
