Show CITIZENS DESIRE fill. PLEASANT TO BE A CLEAN CITY MAYOR REQUESTED TO DESIGNATE CLEAN-UP WEEK; CITY COUNCIL INDORSES MOVEMENT Prizes Offered For Flies And Flowers Requests from the citizens from the four conwrs of the city have come to the Mayor and City Couneil during the past week asking that steps he taken to make Mount Pleas-an Pleas-an a " Clean City" from one end to the other. In response to this request the Mayor and Couneil at a special meeting meet-ing held Friday evening, appointed a "Clean City Committee" which in-ci.ides in-ci.ides representatives of all organizations organ-izations in the city. In addition to this an executive committee was also appointed. The gentlemen of this committee are Mayor Rasmussen, John Gunderson, Councilman A. E. Mcintosh, bent R. Hansen, H. Le hoy Ne.lon, Ihos. West and Joseph Seely. At a special meeting held Wednesday Wednes-day evening at the City Hall the Clean City Committee was instructed to proclaim a special "Clean Up Week" beginning the first week in April. It is expected that everybody in the city will make tiis the most important event of the month. Every Ev-ery organization in the city is lending its moral support to the movement ancV on Wednesday the merchants will close all the stores and consider it a regular holiday. The ladies' clubs are taking a very active part in the movement. To encourage everyone in making Mt. Pleasant a clean city the 20th Century Cen-tury club has offered a prize for the most beautiful and well kept flower garden. The W. C. T. TJ. Is offering offer-ing 10c per hundred for flies during the months of April and May. Miss Winifred Jensen, chairman of the Conservation department of the Utah Federation of Women's clubs is offering of-fering a prize of a select pair of pigeons pig-eons to the boy or girl in any of the grades of the public school or Wasatch Was-atch Academy who will make the . most beautiful bird house and get the most birds to live about his home. The English Sparrow will be barred. The clean town movement has come in just the right time and it should be a success if the good citizens citi-zens of the town will put forth the effort. Let's make our town- the prettiest town in Utah! |
