Show IN A ( M)UI OF DUST The citizens who gathered Monday morning to see our soldier boys off and mnrrh with them lo the depot, did their duty and their good wishes were fully appreciated by those going lo the front. The presence of so many children was an Inspiring sight, but It was humiliating, If not a disgrace, dis-grace, to the city to compel the band, soldiers, citizens and little ones to move along In such a dusty street when a little effort and forethought would have made the line of march both respectable and pleasant. Hut as It was the whole line was Inveloped In a cloud of thick dust while the sprinkler stood a block or two away and lis driver watched the lineup go by In disgust. It had been known for si'vernl days that the boys would start from the Armory and march to the station, then why wasn't the street sprinkled properly In advance of their leaving? No doubt the boys were occupied with graver thoughts, but many citizens were loud In their crll iclsins of the unnecessary condition of the street. The same tale of affairs prevailed on Decoration Day on State street and It Is also more or less noticeable every Sunday afternoon oti all the city's streets. A great malty people are getting tired of eating so much unnecessary street dust. |
