Twenty soldier! of companies thirty-nine and 170 United States canal artillery, wert killed, and about 100 others injured Hunday afternoon -when a special troop train on the Mobile & Ohio rail road crashed through a tres le near State Line, Miss. Division Superintendent Superin-tendent Pinfold of the Mobile & Ohio, In a report sent to headquarters of the road at Mobile, gives this number as the extent of the casualties. The wreck was caused by the en-Kino en-Kino tender jumping the track when about 200 feet from a trestle. The engine was not derailed and passed over the trestle. The tender broke looso from the engine, however, and with the- .baggage car and three coaches coach-es plunged twnety-ftve feet to the ground. The coaches were "well filled, and when the three cars plunged through the trestle, the men nad little chance to escape. The dead and injured were entangled in a twisted mass of wreckage, wreck-age, making It difficult to remove dead bodies or rescue injured. |
