Show Justice Latimer Says A Mouthful George W. Latimer, associate justice of the Utah Supreme Court and a member of 7-man State Board of Pardons, Par-dons, is one of two members of the board to vote against granting leniency to Hiram BeBee, convicted murderer of Lon Larsen. That became apparent Monday when he issued his dissenting dis-senting opinion to the board's majority ruling which granted BeBee life imprisonment on Nov. 22. Justice Latimer placed his finger squarely on the . reason that law-abiding citizens were sickened by the board's majority action when he said, "The taking of human hu-man life is becoming of little concern to the taker." That is the crux of the matter. If our present laws can be twisted by a fuzzy-minded board of pardons to condone con-done murder, then we better get either: 1. A new board of pardons, or 2. New laws. |
