Show A Lasting Tribute Tonight at the South ward, according to a newstory in this week's paper, iolks from North Sanpete stake are going to hold a testimonial for Golden D. Carlston, former president presi-dent of the stake who is moving with his family to Salt Lake city. We don't mean to jump the gun, but we'd like to get in our two bits worth right now. We had a chance to watch Golden Carlston at close range during the days when the Sanpete LDS hospital was in the planning (and later the building) stage and it should be recorded that he performed 100 per cent. One would be safe in saying, probably, that a majority of the population of Sanpete county helped in one way or another to successfully finance the building and operation of the hospital. For most of us this meant a contribution, or maybe two, or it might even have meant attendance at some committee meetings and a part in the door-to-door solicitation. For Golden Carlston the thing wasn't that simple. The hospital had been his baby all of the time and it had been his responsibility to see that the project was a success and not a bust. That "all of the time" incidentally, includes the times when a good many of us regarded Golden as a super-optomist; super-optomist; like when he said the necessary funds would be in in time to open the hospital by May 1, 1948. That just happens to be the date on which the hospital opened. And to the everlasting benefit of the people of Sanpete county, most of whom are now familiar with the splendid medical plant which is available to their health needs. To have been the leader of so commendable a project should bring satisfaction enugh to a man to last him" a lifetime. We hope Golden Carlston will have a lifetime of that kind of satisfaction for his able leadership in behalf of the Sanpete LDS hospital. |
