Show Garden Clubbers Congress At USAC Is This Weekend Garden club members and other llower enthusiasts are invited in-vited to attend a Garden Club Congress at Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural College March 10-11. Plans for the congress were announced today by Dr. Can Friscknecht, director, USAC Ex tension Service. It is being sponsored jointl by the extension service and the Associated Garden Clubs ol Utah, with the USAC depart ments of agronomy, horticulture botany, and entomology cooperating. cooper-ating. Thelma Huber, supervisor oi extension home economics programs, pro-grams, and C. R. Walter of Salt Lake city, president of the garden gar-den clubs association, are serving serv-ing as co-chairmen. Speakers will include Alfred Carl Hottes of La Jolla, Calif., ; nationally known writer and lecturer on gardening. Former associate editor of "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine, Mr. Hottes will discuss dis-cuss three topics at the Utah congress: "Gardens' answer t our quest for happiness", "Let's remake the home grounds," and "Judging cut flowers and arrangements". ar-rangements". Mr. Hottes has written several sev-eral books and numerous pamphlets pamph-lets and magazine articles on gardening. For 12 years he was professor of flowiculture at Ohio State university. His books include the following follow-ing titles: "Little Book of Clumb ing Plants," "Book of Perennials." "Book of Annuals," "Book of Trees," "Book of Shrubs," "Practical "Prac-tical Plant Propagation," "1001 Garden Questions Answered,' "Plant Culture," and "1001 Christmas Facts and Fancies." Several members of the collegf faculty and of the garden clubs will also speak at the congress. Meetings and housing will be in the Rural Arts building, with meals available at the college cafeteria. |
