Show Public Health Column During 1939, 105 cases of poliomyelitis polio-myelitis (infantile paralysis) were reported to the State Board of Health. This is the greatest number ever reported in one yeaer in Utah. Of this number 7 died, a death rate of 1.2 per 100,-000 100,-000 population. The fatality rate during the past 10 years. This lowered rate was due largely to early dignosis, and better merical, nursing and hospital care. Much credit is due to the superintendent superintend-ent and staff at the Salt Lake County Hospital for their splendid splen-did cooperation in accepting and caring for cases from all sections of the State. The practical assistance assist-ance rendered by the local committee com-mittee of the National Founda-ion Founda-ion for Infantile Paralysis was greatly appreciated. All of these cases having , a residual paralysis are now under the care of the Crippled Children's Service of .he State Board of Health. thevov dLLHH - t CH.u 'ksiii Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Abbott of Los Angeles, California were Mt. Pleasant visitors passing through here on their honeymoon trip en route to their home on the coast. Mrs. Abbott is the grand daughter daugh-ter of Roswell McArthur and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mertellus Johansen, former residents resi-dents of Mt. Pleasant. Relatives here were happily surprised to see them and make tneir acquaintance ac-quaintance with Mr. Abbott. Mrs. Abbott left here with her parents when a small girl. |
