Two Sanpete Hatcheries Are i Participating In New Plans Two Sanpete County hatcheries are on the official list of Utah hatcheries participating in the j national poultry and turkey im-I im-I provement plans, according to 1 Dr. Carl Frischknecht, extension poultryman and state supervisor of the plans. d "These plans are the most pro- gressive and efficient programs d that have ever been developed for improving the breeding and d production quantities of poultry and for reducing losses from pul-p pul-p lorum," Dr. Frischknecht said. "This is because fhey provide for the selection of each bird in the , breeding pens on the basis of its f own performance, its pedigree, , and the performance of its pro-f pro-f gency. They also provide for the use of the scientific and success-f success-f ful methods yet known for test-j test-j ing chickens and turkeys for pul-r pul-r . lorum disease." Marketing . agencies and the consuming ' j public also benefit materially V ' from the greater uniformity and ' ! superior quality of eggs and i , poultry meat resulting from the ' operation of the breeders and d hatchery under the national plan, ' Dr. Frischknecht stated. d The breeding and hatching in- , dustry has made rapid progress d in Utah during the past year, ac-cording ac-cording to Dr. Frischknecht. Thirls Thir-ls ty Utah hatcheries having a total hatching capacity of 2,317,506 eggs are now .participating in the "f plan as compared with 23 hatch-1 hatch-1 eries with a total hatching ca-I ca-I pacity of 1,562,379 eggs a year I ago.
