Show A President's Farewell A reluctant goodbye to the 20 years of Dr. George Thomas' presidency of the University of Utah will be said by faoulty members, regents, and student body on November 10. A banquet and reception, followed fol-lowed by a, daince, will be given in the University Union Building in honor of the retiring presi-detn. presi-detn. It 'will close the activities of Dr. Thomas' last day in office. Dr. LeRoy E. Cowles, inewly-ap-pointed president, will assume office on November 12. Guests at the banquet 'will include in-clude prominent Utah educators, civic leaders, and University alumni. Students will gather later in the evening to exchange greetings greet-ings with Dr. Thomas, and a dance for faculty imemibers, friends, and students will coim-plete coim-plete the evening's entertainment entertain-ment Although terminating his years as University president on November No-vember 10, Dr. Thomas will continue con-tinue his services to the school as president emeritus. In that capacity he will maintain an office of-fice on the campus and act as advisor to incoming president Cowlej. 'Dr. Thomas' career in education educa-tion in Utah began in 1898. Since that time he has taught at tne State Agricultural College and at the University, and has served as principal of Ogden High School, as state superintendent superin-tendent of public instruction, and as president of the Federal Land Bank of California. He has been active in civic organizations organ-izations during most of his career. |
