Show Free Press Involves News The freedom of the press, in its essential sense, does not relate to the right of a misanthopist to record his snarling words in editorial type. It is concerned with a fair presentation pre-sentation of news. Unfortunately, the partisanship and spleen of too many doctors make their scrivening suspect to anybody with brains. The reading public has been accustomed to believe that news reports, sent out by reputable news associations, are impartial. The contrary, however, has been asserted and there are instances in the United States which lend support to the allegation. In the field of international news various nations have resorted re-sorted to censorship and control con-trol to prevent impartial reporting. report-ing. They have been assisted very often by venal and partisan journalists, who labor only to give facts favorable to their particular par-ticular proprietor or interest. The effort to secure acknowledgement acknowl-edgement of the right of the press to present unfettered news is of tremendous value to the people of the world but only if there are honest and unbiased agencies to collect, transmit and print the news. |
