Show I MORONI By Special Correspendonce Joseph Bailey Passes Away Joseph Bailey, 70, retired farmer farm-er and stockgrower died at his home Saturday after a lingering illness. Mr. Bailey was born in Moroni, Oct. 18, 1874, a son of early pioneer pio-neer settlers, John and Charlotte Shepherd Bailey. He had spent his entire life here and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Olive Nielsen and one grandchild of Tooele and eight brothers and sisters, Mrs. Ellen Nielsen of Stockton, California; Geo. Bailey of Willows, Calif.; Mrs. Jane Jol-ley Jol-ley of Salt Lake City; John, Parley Par-ley and Edward Bailey and Mrs. Melissa Lund of Moroni and Mrs. Fern B. Allen of Nephi. Funeral services were conducted con-ducted at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the East ward chapel by Bishop James W. Nielsen. The prayers were offered by James C. Fescher and Ezra Nielsen, Niel-sen, and speakers were Bishop Daniel Anderson and Vernile Jensen, Jen-sen, both of whom paid beautiful tributes to his life and character. The "Singing Mothers" rendered two numbers, "In The Garden of Tomorrow," and "The Lord's Prayer." They were accompanied by Mrs. Faye Draper, and conducted con-ducted by Mrs. Isabelle Kellett. An organ solo was played by Mrs. Ophelia Rhodes and a vocal solo was sung by Mrs. Pearl Jor-gensen. Jor-gensen. There was a large number of beautiful floral offereings and also a splendid turn out of relatives rela-tives and friends, all of which demonstrated the high esteem and respect in which he and his relatives are held in our community. com-munity. Interment was in the Moroni cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Soren C. Nielson. Kay Livingston of the U. S. Army is enjoying a ten-day furlough fur-lough with relatives and friends at Moroni. Soren C. Christensen of Richfield, Rich-field, Utah visited recently with relatives and neighbors and friends at Moroni. Miss Coleen Curtis and Miss Florence Olson returned home last week after spending a few days with Miss Katie Jane Anderson Ander-son at Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Draper announce an-nounce the marriage of their daughter, Genell, to Mr. Robert Lees of Los Angeles on Aug. 9th. Mr. Lees is at present in the U. S. Army, but they intend to make their future home in Los Angeles. They have the best wishes of everyone at home for their future fu-ture success and happiness. Bert Dice returned back for duty in the U. S. Army last Sunday, Sun-day, after spending a most delightful de-lightful 30-day furlough with relatives and friends here. His mother and sister, Gladys accompanied ac-companied him to California and after a few days visit, will return re-turn home this week end. Mrs. Celia Nelson and Mrs. Pherris Nielson were hostesses last Thursday night at a family reunion in honor of Keith Storey of the U. S. Army, who was home on a few days furlough. The time was spent in a pleasant social hour, after which a most delicious hot lunch was served. Beith left Friday Fri-day to report for duty in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was accompanied as far as Salt Lake City by his sister, Darlene. Miss Oneita and Ralda Hansen of Provo visited Tuesday with relatives and frineds at Moroni. They were accompanied by Miss Velda Brookby of Arizona, a missionary mis-sionary companion of Oneita's, and Miss Dot Kimberly of Ther-mopolis, Ther-mopolis, Wyo. The "Victory" club members were entertained last Tuesday evening at Palisade Park by the following hostesses: Ethelyn Anderson, Francine Morley and Bate Christensen. They enjoyed a camp fire program, after which a delicious hot lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Black-ham Black-ham have sold their home this week to Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Peterson. Peter-son. They will make the move within a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Dorwal Curtis of Garfield, Utah spent Sunday with relatives here and were special guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nielson, where a most delicious hot chicken dinner din-ner was enjoyed. Mrs. Lila Anderson And-erson and children were also in attendance. Mrs. Boyce Jensen and cihldren have returned home after having spent the summer in Salt Lake City. The Moroni Stake Quarterly conference, which was held last Sunday at Fountain Green, was a big success with an unusually large number at every session. The principal speakers were: Elder Ezra T. Benson of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve and Elder Ezra Gnowlton of the Welfare Department. Depart-ment. Both of Salt Lake City. The concluding session, under direction of the Stake M. I. A. consisted of an evening with the Barton family of Manti. It was well attended also, and the program pro-gram was enjoyed very much. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bailey and children of Salt Lake City are spending their vacation here, and also at Bryce Canyon. The Sr. Sorosis club spent a most enjoyable evening last Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Power plant, where there were 15 members mem-bers present. Following a pleasant pleas-ant social hour a delicious hot lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Worth Storey and two young daughters of Cheyenne, Wyo. are spending a few days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Storey. Mrs. Joseph Prestwich spent last week in Salt Lake City and was accompanied back by her children, Mr. and Mr.s Glen Prestwich and family. Mrs. Wm. J. Mansfield and young son, Eldon are spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Jensen. Mrs. Elizabeth Hansen of Salt Lake City and Mrs. John Jensen of Mt. Pleasant were guests at the home of their brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Fescher at Moroni. Their daughter, Ina has also spent several weeks at home and she will leave next week for San Francisco, where she will teach school this winter win-ter there. This will be her second winter in that school. Mrs. Mary Draper returned home this week after spending the past six months with her children, Clayton and Stanley Draper and families at McGill, Nevada; Ferry and Douglas Draper Dra-per and families at Ely, Nevada; Miss Lucile Hutton and family and Mr. and Mrs. La Val Dastrup and family of Ogden, Utah and Karl and Sydney Draper of Salt Lake City. She reported having had a wonderful time. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Allred of Fountain Green spent last week with their children at Moroni, Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson and family. Miss Faye Morley has spent most of the summer in Salt Lake City where she has employment. |
