Rape, rapine and ruin have characterized the march of the soldiers of the land of the hsing Sun." That these words are not the result of ibitter feeling but an accurate description of what nas taken place in China is evident when we recall that Rear Admiral Ad-miral Yarnell, former Commander Comman-der in Chief of the U. S. Asiatic lleet, says, "Japan's invasion of China has caused more death, destruction and misery in two years than the entire first World iWar in four. Forty million Chinese Chi-nese have been driven from their homes, and between five and ten m.llions of them have died of starvation and disease. There has never been anything like it in history." The statesmen at Tokyo talk of peace, cf the new order, of justice jus-tice to all peoples throughout the vnrld and declare that the out- side world must seek "real understanding" under-standing" of Japanese purposes. The United States, lor years, has permitted Japan to buy materials ma-terials in this country and to sell us the silk that enables her war machine to function. Sentiment in the United States is overwhelming over-whelming in favor of China but the government does not move resolutely against the Japs. There must be some reason, which the general public does not know about, but if there is not, then the thing to do is to put the ecrews to Japan, |
