Show School Lunches Begin Tuesday On Tuesday, September G, all schools in the North Sanpete district will be ready to serve first school lunch of the year to the hundreds of students who were served the type a meal last year, and also to other students who are new. According to Mrs. Blanche Johnson, district school lunch supervisor, here were 181,050 meals seived during the las! school year, which was an in-creas in-creas of 22,000 over the preceding year. Mrs. Johnson pointed out that, "The school lunch is not just a filling station, but a plac.-where plac.-where a balanced meal is served ser-ved daily in accordance with state and federal requirements." Each day the lunch must contain con-tain one half pint of pasteurized pasteur-ized milk, two ounces of protein pro-tein in various forms, two-thirds cup of vegetables or fruit, a portion of bread and two ounces of fortified margarine. This is sufficient for one-third to one-half of the daily diet re-quiremtn, re-quiremtn, Mrs. Johnson said. Many nutritious foods are given to the schools, which are purchased by the government. Each school will soon receive canned pears and apples, which have been canned at the l.!:jioni cannery. The ' fruit is of excellent ex-cellent quality, according to Mrs. Johnson, and should' add variety to the lunches, parti- culary during the winter months. Other foods, such ns honey, potatoes, peanut buticr, fruil juices, etc., are also available for use.
