Show I FOUNTAIN GREEN I By Special Correspondence John J. Oldroyd Honored By His Family at Liberty Park John J. Oldroyd, retired business busi-ness man, civic, political and religious re-ligious leader for more than 60 years, was the honored guest of his family at Liberty Park on his eightieth birthday. 'Mr. Oldroyd was born in Glen-wood, Glen-wood, Sevier county, Utah, Aug. 9, 1865, a son of Peter M. and Mary. Jolley Oldroyd. He was a successful woolgrower and during dur-ing his life has served several terms as Mayor and Coucilman of the Fountain Green Town Board and he is a devoted member mem-ber of the Latter Day Saint church. In 1906 he filled a mis- I sion to the North Western States and for many years was a mem- j ber of the ward choir, and a member of the Wool City Band. In 1886 he married Mary Morgan of Fountain Green in the Logan L. D. S. Temple, and to them were born seven children. They are: John T. Oldroyd, Salt Lake City; Milton Oldroyd, Mrs. Mary Jane Livingston, Mrs. Luella Mower, Provo; Dr. Merrill Oldroyd, Old-royd, Payson; Lenard and Jesse Oldroyd, Fountain Green. His wife died in 1910. He later married mar-ried Mrs. Lillie Smith in the Manti L D S Temple. He has 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Cpl. Colin Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Green, has returned re-turned home after three years overseas service. He was stationed sta-tioned in Italy. The Gloom Busters club members mem-bers entertained Tuesday evening eve-ning in honor of one of their members, Mrs. Ruby Ivory, who is leaving to make her home in Salt Lake City. Carl Conrad of McGill, Nevada was the guest of Iviiss Beth All-red All-red Wednesday. Miss Allred is also from McGill, but is spending spend-ing her vacation with her grandmother, grand-mother, Mrs. Bertha Christiansen. Christian-sen. Mrs. Libbie Robertson of Provo was the geust Monday of her sister, sis-ter, Mrs. Hanna C. Mathis. Mrs. Elvin Mikkelson and son, Jack of Young, Arizona have returned re-turned to their home after spending spend-ing her vacation in Fountain Green. Her husband, Lt. Elwin Mikkelson, formerly of this city, has been ordered to the Pacific and is stationed at Guam. Miss Jesse Oldroyd is spending spend-ing the summer in Salt Lake City, where she is employed. Moroni Stake Quarterly Conference, Con-ference, under the direction of Dermont Madsen, will be held V Fountain Green, Aug. 25th and 26th. Mrs. Venice Anderson and Mrs. Anna Robertson of Moroni were the speakers at Sacrament meeting meet-ing Sunday, August 19th. Mrs. Margaret Isom of Lor, Angeles and her father, Mr. A. P. Anderson of Salt Lake City are visiting with relatives and friends in Fountain Green. Fountain Green enjoyed a real Homecoming as well as the annual Lamb Day on August 15th, when many old time residents resi-dents came to visit the old Home Town and they never once took out their Ration Eook. |
