Show Ten Safety Suggestions Tor Bicycle Riders This is the second in a series of articles on safety being published pub-lished by all local papers in our state. Last week we urged you to study the Seven Rules of Safe Walking. This week we will give you ten suggestions for Bicycle Riders. Go over these ruies witn your growing ooys and girls. Follow them up and see that they are enforced in your community. It will pay every citizen to know them and be on the alert. Practice safety rules and save lives. Here they are: 1. Obey all stop signs and traffic signals, just as if you were driving a car. 2. Ride only on the right hand side of the street, as close to the curb as possible. 3. Ride single file on busy or narrow streets. Never ride more than two abreast. 4. Don't carry another person on your bicycle it obstructs your vision and makes steering, and balancing difficult. 5. Don't "hitch on" to trucks-or trucks-or cars and never "stunt" or race in traffic. 6. Always dismount and walk your bicycles across heavily traveled streets. 7. Don't "weave" in and out of traffic. Avoid sudden turns or stops. 8. Be alert for suddenly opened open-ed doors when passing parked cars. 9. Stop and make sure sidewalks side-walks and streets are clear-when clear-when coming out of alleys and1 driveways. 10. Be sure your bicycle has; good brakes and Is equipped. with horn or a bell, a rear reflector, re-flector, and a headlight. Y'ou are the future motorists,, bike riders, and a good bike rider will make a good car driver. Make these rules your safe driving code. |
