Show Agronomist Shows Possibilities Of Improved Exhibits County fair managers in Utah should change their premium lists to bring emphasis on the most important crops and varieties variet-ies of farm products, advises, J. C. Hogenson, extension agronomist agron-omist at the Utah State Agricultural Agricult-ural college. He believes prizes were given this year for varieties and crops that are not now important. im-portant. - - Mr. Hogenson, who has been judging crop displays at county fairs throughout the state, also suggests that uniform containers be used to improve the appearance appear-ance of the exhibit. "A county fair should feature the principal products of the county. In a fruit county, fruit should constitute the main crop exhibits. In a dry farm county wheat should occupy a majority of the exhibits. No preference should be given one type of product pro-duct in displaying it." he commented. com-mented. Arranging all products of the same variety together would offer fair visitors a chance to make comparisons. All displays should be so located that the judges can easily examine them or the prizes may not always be properly distributed. Artistic arrangements ar-rangements featuring uniformity and equality will improve these annual shows a great deal, asserts as-serts Mr. Hogenson. "In general the people of all the counties are to be congratulated congratu-lated for the very fine displays they made at their local show as well as at the State Fair," commented com-mented the agronomist. "Fairs are great educational institutions, if properly carried on and should be encouraged in every county." |
