Show Business on Upturn Penney Sales Show The Largest Increase In Three Years ' Gross sales of the J. C. Penney Company for May, 1933 were $14.-432,845.34 $14.-432,845.34 as against May, 1932 sales of $12,645,443.84. This is an increase for the month of $1,787,-401 $1,787,-401 51 or 14.13 per cent the largest lar-gest percentage of increase shown by this company since April, 1930. Cumulative Gross Sales from Januaiy 1st to May 31st, 19X1 inclusive, were $56,402,697.47 a-f-ainst $."7,255,271.30 for the saim period in 1932, a difference cf ?S5'5,573.fi3 or 1.49 per cent. Commenting on this striking increase in-crease in May sales. Mr. E. C. Sams, President of the J. C. Penney Pen-ney Company said: "Tt is gratifying to note that this increased volume has been shewn by stores in all sections of the country. Since retail price: had not yet been advanced by our Company during May, but were actually lower on the whole than those existing a year ago, the increased in-creased sales reflect a definite and marked increase in customer buying. buy-ing.
