Show Local People Narrowly Escape in Quake Mrs. F. C. Jensen, Mrs. N. S. Neilson and Neils Neilson, who have spent the winter in southern California, returned home Saturday Satur-day evening, thankful to have escaped es-caped the earthquake by a margin of only a few minutes. They left Long Beach at 5:30 p. m. Friday, going by bus to Los Angeles. Just before reaching Compton they felt the first quake and their bus was thrown on its side, a large dirt bank on the ride of the road preventing it from turning completely over. While stopping .t Compton, they were in the midst of the quake area and saw the windows and front part of the Compton bank shattered. shat-tered. Arriving at Los Angeles, they boarded their train, which left ahead of schedule to be out of the danger zene. ' |
