Show Joseph A. Coats Passes Away Jo'ph A. Coates, 83, early ttttr of this city and a Black Hawk Indian In-dian war veteran, died at an early hour Tuesday after a long Illness following a paralytic stroke two years ago. Mr. Coates wan born! In Sheffield, England, July 2. 1852, a son of John and Sarah Higginbottom Coates. He emigrated to America in 1863, coming directly to Utah, and settled in Mt. Pleasant the same year. lie was rnniried to Mary Elizabeth Zabri kit in the Endownment house in Salt Lake City in 1877. She died Mai eh 25, 1P9S. Aft-r hsr d;aih he waa married in 3904 to Mary Ellen Farnsworth, who died in 1920. Surviving aae four sons and tTO daughters, George W. Coates, Richfield, Rich-field, Idaho; Mrs. Ethel C. Spence Kolstrom and Alma Coates, Mount Plea,'tant; Justin A. and Hyrum J. Ccates, Nampa, Idaho; and Mrs. Graos Coates Blackwell, Carey, Ida-do; Ida-do; 32 grand-children and 12 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren.
