Show A. B. APPERSON RESIGNS? COAL COMPANY "TALK" As hns been foreshadowed for several weeks, A. B. Appcrson, general superintendent of the Utah lines of the Dcnvr nnd Rio Grand, has resigned. He quits the road tomorrow, Saturday, January 8th. Rumor has it that Appcrson is to become tho operating op-erating hend of one of the big coal companies of Utah. Should this be the case, the position would naturally bring him in closer contact with citizens of Carbon county by reason of the fact that all the big producing mines are in close proximity to Price. Apportion Ap-portion returned to Salt Lake City last Saturday from the East, but declined lo cither deny or affirm tho coal company rumor. His resignation was to become effective January 1, 1910, but at tho request of President Mudge of tho Denver nnd Rio Grande, he agreed to rcmnin a short time longer. Previous to going to the Denver nnd Rio Grande Appcrson was general suierintcndcnt of the Southern Utah and the Cnstlo Valley Val-ley railroads out of Price. Who will succeed Appcrson has not been announced. I. H. Luke, superintendent of the Salt Lake division di-vision of the Denver nnd Rio Grande, has been recommended for tho position by Appcrson, nnd it is understood Hint he probably will be mado acting gcnernl superintendent January 8th, unless a pcrmnnent appointment is made. Appcrson said that when lie left President Mudge in Chicago a few days ago it had not been decided de-cided who would receive tho pcrmnnent appointment. "I do not know who is to relieve me," Appcrson said last Saturday, Satur-day, "and I do not believe the matter has been decided. My resignation resig-nation was tendered to become effective Janunry 1, 191G, but upon tho request of President Mudge I agreed to serve a week longer to give President Mudge an opportunity to decide upon my successor. Although I have quit tho railroad, or will after next Saturday, I expect to remain in Salt Lake Citv indefinitely. I am not prepared to discuss the report Hint I nm to take charge of one of Utah a big coal companies. My trip East was ono of business nnd pleasure combined. I visited New York, Boston nnd Chicago and was in conference with President Mudge nnd other railroad officials. Further than that I do not care to discuss the business part of the trip. Appcrson hns been connected with the Denver nnd Rio Grande for seven years. |
