Show CARPENTER QUITS THE "COAL GAME" President of the United States Fuel Company Soon to Leave Utah to Locate In the East Somewhere. E. L. Carpenter, president of the United States Fuel company, leaves that corporation nnd its allied companies the first of tho month February. His resignation went in the first of this year. As soon as his successor is named and takes the reins, Mr. nnd Mrs. Cnrpentcr expect to take a licsurely sea voyage to South America, during which they will spend several months visiting the principal cities of the Southern Hemisphere. Returning they expect to locate lo-cate somewhere in the East, very likely Boston, Mass., or New York City. E. L. Carpenter is one of the very best known and most competent com-petent coal operators of tho United States. From 1884 to 1002 he was with the Pleasant Valley and the Utah Fuel companies, going in the latter year from Salt Lake City to the East to become the manager of the New York office of the Consolidated Fuel company, com-pany, a West Virginia corporation. From 1906 to 1909 he was general manager for the Phelps-Dodge interests at Dawson, N. M. In 1909 Carpenter, resigned at Dawson, N. M to take the position posi-tion of assistant to W. G. Sharp, president of tho United States Smelting, Refining nnd Mining company at Boston, Mass. In 1912 the United States company purchased the Castle Valley Coal company, com-pany, the Consolidated Fuel company, the Black Hawk Coal company com-pany and later the Panther Coal company, together with the Southern Utah and Uic Cnstlo Valley lines of railroad out of Price. Mr. Carpenter was placed in charge of the combined interests. With the exception of the railroad interests tho corporations mentioned have been consolidated as the United States Fuel company. com-pany. He has been active in the management of the rnilroads referred re-ferred to nnd also in the promotion and building of the Utah railway rail-way out of Castle Gate to Mohrland in Emery county, over which most of the product of the mines of the United States Fuel company goes to market. If he has any inkling of his successor, suc-cessor, Mr. Carpenter declines to make the same public. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Carpenter formerly resided nt Castle Gate in this county nnd have many old time friends locally. Mrs. Carpenter Car-penter has not been in good health for years. The Southern Hemisphere Hemi-sphere trip is primarily for her health. Tho Sun hns heard the suggestion that Mr. Carpenter might becomo president of the United States Smelling, Refining and Mining company upon locating lo-cating in the East. W. G. Sharp, its president nnd general manager, has not been in the best of health for a considerable time. |
