Show Lindon Building Ordinances Are Discussed by Council at Meeting i A lengthly discussion which em-phaised em-phaised the need for the adoption of more rigid building ordinances predominated the regular meeting of the Lindon City Council and ended with the councilmen's decision de-cision to seek legal advice and a - conference with the planning commission com-mission as soon as possible. The decision followed a report heard from the building inspector, Clifford Johnson, who cited examples exam-ples of serious mistakes made by builders. Acting on Inspector Johnson's suggestions, Councilman Ivan Blain made the motion that' all persons applying for a building permit in Lindon be handed the booklet, "Dwelling House Construction Constru-ction under the Unform Building Code". The motion was seconded by Councilman Kenneth H. Gill-man Gill-man and passed by the council. Furthermore, Councilman Ray Walker expressed the desire that a' reminder be extended to ail citizens citi-zens contemplating building or remodeling re-modeling in Lindon, "they must present a plot plan to the building inspecttor and obtain a permit before be-fore building begins or fees will be doubled," he stated. Definite attempts at-tempts are being made to improve the calibre of new buildings in Lindon, residential or otherwise, and correct errors made by builders build-ers in remodeling. Other business of importance included in-cluded the adoption of new fees for water hook-ups $90 for three-quarter-inch connections; $125 for one-inch connections, and $225 for two-inch Lsbor costs, box and cover, cov-er, and a month's water bill at minimum charge of $2.50 plus $4.50 fire hydrant hook-up fee are included in the flat prices. Reporting on roads and culverts, Reed Gillman, road worker, announced an-nounced that the finishing touches are being put on the new adequate pipe line. Mr. Gilman will commence com-mence reading the water meters in Lindon April 20. A sum of $250 was appropriated at this meeting for the completion of the proposed-road project as requeued by the planning commission commis-sion through Councilman Owen Hooley representative for the plan- ners. Councilman Gillman representing represen-ting recreation, spoke on Lindon's summer recreation program and was asked by Councilman Walker to investigate the cost and possibilities possib-ilities of merging with Pleasant Grove in their program. Mayor Harold Keetch advised Councilman Council-man Verl Christiansen to contact residents of east Lindon who have expressed the desire for road improvements. im-provements. Due to the fact that a couple of the councilmen work shift work and cannot be present at all of the council meetings regularly held on the second Thursday of every monl h, Mayor Keetch will announce announ-ce the evening to be set aside for these meetings. Time for the meetings meet-ings has been changed from 7:30 to 8 p.m. In last, month's newspaper report re-port of the Lindon City Council meeting it was announced that A. W. Walser was retained as Lindon's Lin-don's justice of the peace at a salary sal-ary of $50 per month. Mr. Walser's salary shoould read $50 a year. |
