Fireplace is on Manila Chapel grounds. Manila Receives Fireplace from Young Farmers Timp Chapter Last year Sears Roebuck Foundation Foun-dation offered the Utah State Young Farmers Program $2500 for an educational program in Home Beautification. After ten educational meetings on the subject sub-ject offered through the Central Utah Vocational School, the Timpanogos Tim-panogos Chapter of Young Farmers Farm-ers qualified to receive $100.00 of these funds. In planning a manner in which the money could best be used in community improvement, it was decided to construct a cinder cind-er block and concrete fireplace in the recreational park of the Manila Ward Chapel. The fireplace has been constructed of red cinder block and several picnic tables. An open fire pit surrounded by stationary stat-ionary seating benches will be provided. pro-vided. With a great deal of hard labor on the part of Timpanogos Young Farmers, the fireplace has taken form and a grove of ragged growing green ash trees changed to a place of comfort and beauty that will be the favored spot for numerous summer picnics. The Timpanogos Chapter of Young Farmers is an educational organization sponsored by the Central Utah Vocational School. John Y. Swenson of Manila is this year's president, assisted by vice-president vice-president Stanford Ekins and secretary sec-retary Clifton Wadley, also of Manila. The organization comprises compris-es membership from Provo to Lehi and is interested in agricultural progress and community betterment. better-ment. The Chapter award from Sear F'oundation will pay half the cost of the project, the other coming com-ing from the Manila Ward Elders Quorum of which several are likewise like-wise members of the Timpanogos Young Farmers Chapter. Assisting the Young Fanners officeis in the planning as well as the construction stage of the project has been Chapter Advisor Fred H. Cornaby of Provo, Utah. The project has provided a real challenge to the young fanner officers of-ficers as well as providing something some-thing that will probably be enjoyed en-joyed by individuals in the area for an indefinite future. |
