Show Membership Campaign For . P. G. Jaycees lacked Hy Former JCs Ted Jones, president of the PI. Grove Jaycees issued a call and a challenge Wednesday to all young men of the Pleasant Grove area between the ages of 21 and 35. The 1957 drive for new members for the local Junior Chamber of Commerce will be launched within with-in a few days, he said. Mr. Jones went on to explain that the Jaycees is an organization organiza-tion of young men with young progressive pro-gressive ideas and a determination 1 a improve conditions in their own home community far the benefit of their young and growing families. fam-ilies. After a young man reaches the age of 36, he is no longer eligible for membership in the Jaycees or-ganization. or-ganization. For this reason the ranks cf the club must be continually contin-ually augmented with younger men who are intelligent, alert, and willing to work on projects of community com-munity benefit. In order that the younger men of this area may know the ideals for which this national organization organiza-tion stands, Jack Lee, past Jay-oee Jay-oee president submitted the universal uni-versal "Jaycee Creed:" We believe: That faith in God gives meaning mean-ing and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; na-tions; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than of men; That earth's great treasure lies in Human personalitj'; And that service to humanity is the best work of life. In addition Mr. Lee called attention at-tention to the numerous worthwhile worth-while activities that the local Jaycees Jay-cees have sponsoi-ecl during the past several years. We quote: "The Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce is a civic organization and as such its main purpose is to sponsor activities and -projects which will benefit all the citizens of the community and projects which will improve the city itself. Some of the projects are Christmas activities which include the street decorations, Santa Claus and children's child-ren's treat, and the children's free movie; City Clean-up, in which the Jaycees tour the city picking up trash put out by residents; Teen-Age Teen-Age Road-E-O, which encourages teenagers to become better and safer drivers by participating in tests of driving knowledge and skill; Traffic Safety projects such as Scotch-lite reflection tape for the rear- bumpers of automobiles and the purchase of rain hats and slickers for the members 'of the Junior Police." When contacted Tuesday afternoon, after-noon, Sam Green, another past president of the organization, said, "Wheie is there a college that can give a young man a degree in leadership. Professors may present theories and quote from books, but in truth there is only one way a young man can develop leadership leader-ship ability through experience. This common-sense fact has made the Jaycees the fastest growing and the most popular young men's organization in the world." "Each and every member of society so-ciety bears a direot responsibility to others. We all have duties toward to-ward our families, friends, church, and community," said Emile Can-ces, Can-ces, former Jaycee president. "A city that is favored with active civic clubs is always wide-awake and progressive. The Pleasant Grove Jaycees have performed such a service in Pleasant Grove," Mr. Canoes concluded. Bishop Harvey Smith, a former Jayoees president and active member mem-ber for many years, said, "The Junior Chamber of Commerce stands for community 'betterment, progressive and civic pride. It gives a young man an opportunity to function in valued projects and feel the ipulse of the community. It is an organization of action, accomplishment ac-complishment and excellent association. assoc-iation. Look over the city and take an inventory 'cf the present leaders. lead-ers. Many of them are current or foi-mer Jayoees." With the one purpose of rendering render-ing a public sei"vice to the people of Pleasant Grove, the Review commends the ideals a.nd purposes of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Com-merce. We recommend membership in this organization to all young men of our community who are eligible to affiliate. Opportunities for service ser-vice are unlimited and everyone who' belongs is benefited personally person-ally and repaid many fold for the effort anil time required to be an active Jaycee. , |
