Show Blanding Broncos Win Over American Fork Last Saturday The heartbreaker for American Ameri-can Fork came in the waning seconds sec-onds of the game. After blocking block-ing a Bronco punt on the San Juan 15, Merlin Drig'gs ran to the two, big Jim Moore blasted to the one and as the gun barked, Calvin Madsen was buried on the half-yard half-yard line. Coach of the San Juan team is Morris Sw-enson, former player for Pleasant Grove High School, Snow College and Utah State U. Coach Swenson has accomplished a minor miracle with the help of the boys in a studentbody totaling only 130 members. A bunch of Blanding Broncos from down San Juan way trampled tramp-led the American Fork Cavemen 24-20 Saturday afternoon on a rain and wind-swept Plsasant Grove football field. It was a bitter loss for the Region VII Champion American Forkers, and blasted them out of the semi-final Class B contest. The Bronchos and Cedar City's Redmen will settle that score, Saturday in a game scheduled at Blanding. The wildest Bronco of them all was Nick Black, who never knew when he was caught and kept on running. He scored two touchdowns touch-downs on broken field gallops of 65 and 80 yards. San Juan's two other touchdowns touch-downs came on a pass, Nielson to Jones, and a two-yard step-over by Jay Redd, after an in-the-air Caveman fumble. The Broncos missed all their conversion attempts; at-tempts; but didn't need them. The first two minutes of the game was all American Fork. Taking the ball on the kickoff, the losers had their first six-pointer six-pointer in four line plays, with Jim Moore blasting over from the' one. American Fork's other two touchdowns were soored by Larry Searle and Moore. The Cavemen converted twice. |
