Show Chairman of Pleasant Grove Polio Drive Urges Support Of Everyone in the 1952 Drive We are now into the new year of 19S2 and the polio drive. Every year there are numerous drives for funds such as the heart disease, cancer, and the Red Cross drives. Each of these causes involve in-volve human lives and certainly each one is a worthy cause. The polio drive comes first in the line and it involves those first in our hearts our children who emergency will have an opportunity opportun-ity to contribute. This drive is not meant to be a burden to anyone. It is your chance to help a child a fight to help keep your child free from paralysis. I am appealing to you again to support this drive to the fullest extent. Everyone-, who has seen the grief and effects that this disease dis-ease has caused will be 100 per cent behind this drive. If we, the people of Pleasant Grove could save just one life or help one child in his fight to normal nor-mal life, think what personal satisfaction sat-isfaction you would receive from the knowledge. By contributing to the march of dimes you are not only extending a helping hand to research but insuring the best of care to someone who may mean more than life itself to you. i Can you afford to deprive some youngster of his chance to a normal life? You can not afford to not contribute generously. Please won't you help make the drive of 1952 one of the most successful ones in our history? MRS. CARROL. H. GREEN Pleasant Grove Chairman of Polio Drive. are so greatly affected by the dreaded disease. This summer, the people of Pleasant Grove were more than cooperative in the fly spraying campaign every one willing and anxious to rid the city of anything that might help the polio disease disfigure and cripple those nearest and dearest to us. This summer, also, this county was so hard hit by polio that special experiments were carried out in our cities. 5000 Utah County Coun-ty children received this serum and of this amount, Pleasant Grove was well represented. From the turn out it was apparent that we were becoming conscious of the horrors of this virus that has no respect for age. A great many people now carry polio insurance which, as far as it goes, is a wonderful thing, but this insurance helps only after the disease has struck & it is too late to prevent it. We must see the need of additional need for funds to further research and aid. These shots our children received were not brought about without extensive exten-sive and expensive research. Several of our young residents were stricken with polio this year. Some of them fatal. During the year the county foundation spent $12,594.19 of its own funds and called on the National Foundation for "over $11,000" more. It should be every citizen's duty to help voluntarily in this drive. House to house canvassing will not be done this year but every- j one who wishes to help in thisi |
