Show American Fork High Opens Basketball Season in AF Against the PG High Vikings Pleasant Grove's flu - riddled basketeers invade the Cavemen stronghold at American Fork to open the' hoop season there tonight at- 8 p. m. And thing are going to be different than they were with Lincoln High at PG a week ago! American- Fork lost a heart-breaker heart-breaker to Lehi last week by two points, 48-50, and Pleasant Grove fell apart in the second half again-Lincoln again-Lincoln by a final score of 51-28 in a game that belied the score. Coach Bill Smith's boys should have a good chance against American Amer-ican Fork tonight. Every man on the team is in fairly good shape again after suffering with the flu. Kayle Kirk, junior on the team, was still out of school with the flu Thursday and Bill may not play him at all. The Vikings did some nifty backboard work against the Rail-splitters. Rail-splitters. In the first half the locals controlled the boards 14-4, and in the second half, 12-9, when the effects of the flu bug took hold. The fact is, ya can't play basketball or anything else with a snoot full of flu. Pleasant Grove has a taller team than American Fork, and if the Vikings control the backboards back-boards and they should better than against Lincoln they will be a hard team to beat if they can last through the second half. The Lincoln game ended 23-17 at the half for Lincoln. When the boys fell apart they could make only 10 points in the second half. Dee Louder came back from a sick bed Tuesday. Merlin Allred and Merlin Swenson also were down for the count. We're not making excuses because be-cause of sickness. If A. F. does the same as Lincoln did to the locals, we'll eat our best hat with mustard. A close game if the boys are right! ALT |
