Answers An-swers will be given in this column.) jlTORE than 20,000 college seniors from every state are now or soon will be in summer ROTC camps in the army's most ambitious summer sum-mer ROTC program since World "War II. Thirty posts and army hospitals hos-pitals are to be used for the highly specialized training designed to prepare the collegians for any future fu-ture military service. The ROTC is on of the army's principal sources of trained officers and its value has been demonstrated in two world wars. During World War II about 120,000 officers, 23 per cent of the total in the army, were ROTC graduates. All the cadets will get $75 a month and free subsistence, housing, uniforms and medical care. Q. I am in the service and I have S10.000 indemnity. What happens to the money if 1 die without naming a beneficiary? J. A. K., hlkton, Md. A. The indemnity will be paid to your widow, if you are married; to your child or children, if your wife is not living; to your parent or parents, if you have no wife or children; or to your brothers or sisters if there are no survivors in the other categories. Q. I am training several veterans vet-erans on-the-job under the Gl bill in my automobile repair shop and 1 plan to give them a small wage increase. How do I go about it? S. J., Meridian, Miss. A. You must notify the state approving ap-proving agency in your state. The agency will then notify VA at which time necessary adjustments in subsistence sub-sistence payments will be made. Q. I am a Korean campaign veteran in receipt of compensation for a service connected disability. If I show a need for it, would I be eligible for Public Law 16 training? O. M. B., Laredo, Texas. A. You may be eligible if you are in need of training to overcome the handicap of your disability, and your disability resulted directly from armed conflict or during extrahazardous extra-hazardous service. Both requirements require-ments must be met. Q. Is a veteran who lost his sight for reasons not connected with military service entitled to VA special aids to the blind? Miss J. G., Hardin, Kentucky. A. Yes, provided the veteran is entitled to compensation for any service connected disability. The service connected disability however, how-ever, need not be blindness itself. Q. Can you tell me who succeeded suc-ceeded Harold W. Breini'ng who recently retired as head of VA insurance department? A. L., Cairo, III. A. Harold V. Stirling, head of VA education and training program has been named VA administrator for insurance, succeeding Mr. Breining. |
