The 22 darlings of the world of dance, who drew such extravagant praise from critics when they recently re-cently appeared in the two chief dance shrines in the East, Jacob's Pillow at Lee and the Connecticut College School of the Dance at New London, range from preschool pre-school age to mid-teens. Utah always al-ways has loved them, but they have succeeded in dancing their way into the hearts of the nation. nat-ion. "Walter Terry of the New York Herald Tribune wrote of them, "... .but more important than the lovliness of the setting was the vital innocence of the dancers themselves. They looked like children child-ren and not like miniature adults; they danced themes of their own choosing and of their own creation creat-ion .... they danced as if they had faith in themselves, had love for those who were seeing them, actively believed in their God and rejoiced in all of these." Trained by Virginia Tanner of the McCune School of Music branch, BYU, the charm of the dimmitive group lies more in their freshness than in their technical brilliance. Most of their dances are ad-libbed, and they conclude performances per-formances frequently with a show-stopper show-stopper called "Good; Night for Children," depicting the youngsters young-sters with little animals all going to sleep as one child dances their "good night prayer." ' Antehony Tudor, distinguished English choreographer and director direct-or of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet School,-said, "When, after the tur-mult tur-mult had begun to die, I thanked Virginia .... for her contribution, the children for theirs .... and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for having produced such divine children, for with such children the future of America is safe." Tickets will be available at the door Oct. 10. |
