Show Official Shows Measurements Reveal Flood Dangers Are Great This Year Alter compiling the report for February, Thomas A. Walker, Superintendent of Timpanogos Cave Camp, said that he had listed list-ed the three wettest years on re- cord and "it is noted that this year far exceeds the other two at higher high-er elevations. If the next two months continue to have an excess of precipation the flood danger will be much greater this year than was last." Depth of snow at Timpanogos divide, elevation 8,300, on Feb. 28 was 85.4 inches. Last year it was 82 and in 1937, 82.2. The 16 year mean is 65 inches. At Altamount, elevation 7,300 for the three years thesnow depth is 54.8, 58.5, and; 64.9, with a mean of 48.8. At the South Fork, measuring station, elevation 6,100, snow is considerably less than last year, being only 13.8 compared to 29.9 for last year and 27.7 for 1937; mean 20.2. But water content on the divide is 35.85, compared to 32.6 for 1949, 28.3 for 1937, and a mean of 22.3. Approximately the same percentage per-centage is at the other stations. Precipitation at the Divide )iilh been 33.40 this year compared to 28.35, and a mean of 22.52. At tile Cave camp precipitation has been 14.08 for this season. 12.25 for last year and a mean of 12.14. |
