Show IPo (Bo H.D0K1S (SOLb El GO EPS An illustrated lecture on Civic Pride and Beautification was given giv-en at the Lions Club Wednesday evening by Mark Nichols, state director dir-ector of Vocational Agriculture. He cited as examples for the need of home beautfication and landscaping the many old pioneer hourses, barns, and trees that need to be keep up or removed; also the lack of paint on buildings and the prevalence of weeds on property prop-erty and around houses. Mr. Nichols said the only way to change this situation is through Community dynamics enthusiasm created by competition or better cooperation and recommended the club set up a month by month community program for improvement. improve-ment. He noted the following projects that could be carried out. - An award for the ten most improved farmsteads. 2 For the most improvement in landscaping a residence. 3 Flower shows, several of them each featuring flowers as they bloom. i The use of the school Ag teacher to lead out in landscaping. 5 Bringing in specialists to lecture lec-ture on different phases of landscaping land-scaping and flower culture. 6 Flower garden clubs; specializing spec-ializing in different varieties; such as, Iris, Gladiola, dahlias. 7 Community flower garden, maybe roses. 8 Zoning streets for tree planting. plant-ing. 9 A paint-up campaign. 10 A community nursery plot. 11 Planting grasses for utility and beauty on the hillsides. 12 Making a placard calling at-i tention to improvements needed to be placed on Club member's premises prem-ises til they make the improvement, improve-ment, when the placard could be passed on to another premise. ... .. 13 The job of the club is to create incentives for landscaping a-nd beauification. Instrumental music for the evening ev-ening was furnished by the civic improvement committee, introduced introduc-ed by S. W. Hilton. Those taking part were Gary Jense, Wallace Saling and Floyd Hilton, accompanied accom-panied by Ann Clark. The musicians music-ians were all sons and a daughter of Lion Club members. |
