Show Last Respects Paid Tuesday to A. R. Overlade The Second ward chapel was filled to capacity Tuesday afternoon after-noon with sorrowing relatives and friends who gathered to pay last tribute of respect to the memory of Arthur R. Overlade, veteran musician music-ian of Pleasant Grove and to offer sympathy to his family. The impressive im-pressive service, directed by Bishop Reed O. Walker, opened at 2 p.m. with a number by the Second ward choir, of which Mr. Overlade was director. They sang "God So Loved Lov-ed the World" directed by F. M. Paulson and accompanied by Miss Beverly Wright. Invocation was offered by R. S. Merrill. A sketch of the life and work of Mr. Overlade was read by a brother, Eldon Overlade. Speakers who paid tribute to the memory of Mr. OVerlade and spoke words of faith and encouragement to his family were Principal Karl Banks, Dr. J. R. Halliday of Provo, Jesse M. Walker and Prof. LeRoy Robertson, Rob-ertson, all of whom were former students and fellow teachers. Musical numbers interspersing the speakers were a violin solo Adagio, by Reese played by Deane Slack accompanied by Ethel Slack. A vocal solo, "Crossing the Bar" by Warren Kirk accompanied by J. J. Keeler, who also played prelude pre-lude and portlude organ music. Closing remarks of sympathy and appreciation for Mr. Over-lade's Over-lade's untiring devotion and work in the musical activities of the Second ward were made by Bishop Reed O. Walker. Miss Dean Slack accompanied by Ethel Slack played the closing number, "Lento" by Handel. Vilace Radmall pronounced the benediction. Internment directed by-Olpin Mortuary was made in the Pleas- ant Grove city cemetery. The dedicatory ded-icatory prayer -was offered by Eldon El-don Overlade and a brass quartette directed by Norman Hunt, furnished furn-ished the final numbers. They were Gaylon Hatten, Nellie Borgeson, Bruce Riddle, Tom Nelson and Earl Jardinq. Floral tributes were arranged by the Pleasant Grove Second ward relief socety. Pallbearers included the Second ward Sunday school superintendency, Gerald Belliston, Leland Dickey and Dan Peterson, - and Wesley Jense, Owen Humphries Humph-ries and Paul Adamson, former band students of Mr. Overlade. Mr. Overlade was born July 13 1881 in Ephraim, son .of Andrew and Mary Anderson Overlade. His family was called to settle in Emery Em-ery county when he was 14 years old. He lived there until 1904, when the family moved to Provo. He was graduated from Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University. While there he performed in Provo City and Brigham Young University band and orchestra. He became a music teachers in Pleasant Grove schools shortly after af-ter his graduation and taught there 14 years. In 1933 he became instrumental in-strumental teacher at East High School in Salt Lake City. While there he gained recognition as an orchestra and band leader. He retired re-tired in 1941 and moved to Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. While in Salt Lake City he was j a member of the Tabernacle choir, j He organized many Church choirs here. Surviving are his widow, Emma Weeks Overlade, Pleasant Grove; two sons, Arthur R. Overlade Jr., Salt Lake City and Lyle W. Overlade, Ov-erlade, Las Vegas, Nev., his mother, moth-er, age 92, two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. S. W. Williams, Ur-bon, Ur-bon, E. Overlade, and Mrs. Tony Briemnjak, Provo; Eldon Overlade. Little Rock, Calif.; J. Ellis Overlade, Over-lade, Helper and three grandchildren. |
