Show t Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Mrs. Smith Funeral rites for Mrs. Marie Fisher Smith were conducted Wed. in the Second ward LDS chapel. With Bishop Reed O. Walker in charge the impressive services began be-gan at 3 o'clock with a violin solo by Miss Dawn Marie Adams. She was accompanied by Miss Jennie Gleason. Invocation was offered by Dr. G. S. Richards. A sketch of the life of Mrs. Smith was read by a grand-daughter, Laurene Smith. First speaker was Mrs. Burton S. Musser of Salt Lake City, who told of her years of acquaintance with Mrs. Smith and of the latters sweet humility, her thrift and unswerving un-swerving faith in God. S. A. Kirk, former mayor of Pleasant Grove, paid tribute to Mrs. Smith for her careful and un-errirfg un-errirfg work during her years as City treasurer. Bishop Reed O. Walker was the concluding speaker speak-er and expressed appreciation for the family and their fine work in the ward. Other musical numbers were two vocal solos, by Warren Kirk accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Kirk and the closing number a violin solo by Miss Adams, accompanied by Miss GTeason. Robert Marrott of the bishopric pronounced the benediction. Prelude Pre-lude organ music was played' by Mary Paulson. Internment, directed by Olpin Mortuary was made in Pleasant Grove City cemetery where President Pres-ident Merrill N. Warnick offered the dedicatory prayer. Pallbearers, all close relatives of Mrs. Smith were Blaine Richards, John J. Ramsey, Guy Hillman, Leslie F. Smith and Clarence Durtschi. Mrs Smith was born in Switzerland, Switzer-land, March-24, 1870, a daughter' of Frederick and Elizabeth Wen-ger Wen-ger Fisher. I She joined the Church June 22, 1888, and then came to Utah. Mrs. Smith returned to Switzerland on a special mission to her own people and returned with a brother and' a sister and a nephew. She was married to Samuel H. Smith June 14, 1906 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died Sept 8, 1913. Mrs. Smith was an active member mem-ber of the Church, having served as an officer in the Primary Association As-sociation and the Relief Society in Pleasant Grove ward. She taught German at Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove high school for two years and had been city treasurer for 22 years. Survivors include two sons, Er-vin Er-vin F. Smith, North Plainfield, N. J., and Ernest P. Smith, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove; seven stepsons and stepdaughters, Mrs. Hannah Jane Carlson, Vivian F. Smith and Mrs. Virginia Bowlden, Salt Lake City; Vance M. Smith, Magna; Mrs. Helen Hel-en Wallser, Denver; Mrs. Hazel Shelley, American Fork and George L. Smith, Pleasant Grove; 47 grandchildren and 50 greatgrandchildren. |
