Show Baiile Creek Breeze BY K. B. Next Monday is the first day of a brand New Year. Few of us are sorry to say goodbye to 1950. It has been a year fraught with fear, uncertainty, and apprehension. The year just passed has marked mark-ed the changed from a cold war to a hot one; and we face 1951 with the grave possibility that the localized conflict will spread until it engulfs the' entire civilized world. During 195n the cost of living has reached an all time high and the value of the American dollar has been shrinking day by day. During the past 363 (jays we have made numerous blunders, which have brought our country to the greatest peril we have ever faced. Mistakes are always irritating, irritat-ing, embarrassing, and costly. The correction of these errors will take clear thinking and untold effort ef-fort on the part of us all. Let us face 1951' with cool and intelligent determination to stand firmly in the cause of right, justice jus-tice and humanity. The facts are clear and the issues well defined. The Soviet Union is bent on world supremacy and the enslavement of all mankind. The Communist leaders know no language except the language of superior force. The great issue confronting the American people today is survival; surviv-al; and our existence is based solely sole-ly upon how we play our parts in the days and weeks to come. There must be no compromise; no appeasement. There can be no politics as usual, no business, no profits as usual. Either we devote our entire human and material resources to the democratic cause, or the Communist dictators will order our entire way of life. May the New Year bring us new hope, new vision, and united strength to come to the aid of our beloved homeland in the hour of her greatest peril. |
