Show Cities Meet On Uniform Legislation A move to establish a set of uniform ordinances for the major Utah county cities other than Pro-vo Pro-vo received favorable comment from six of the communities at a joint meeting of the mayors and city councilmen here Tuesday night. Called by Mayor David L. Greenwood of American Fork, the meeting was attended by 32 persons, per-sons, including Mayors Floyd Harmer of Payson, Wallace H. Gardner of Spanish Fork. Sterling-Price Sterling-Price of Springville and Harvey Smith of rieasant Grove, together with other representatives of the various city councils. Mayor J. W. Gillman of Orem was out of the state and Orem City councilmen were unaable to attend because of another meeting, but they indicated they were interested in-terested in the uniform ordinance proposal. Lehi was represented, but likely will not participate in Uie program pro-gram inasmuch as that city revised re-vised its ordinances only last year. Mayor Greenwood declared that about 70 per cent of all ordinances could be uniform throughout the county. Other ordinances dealing strictly with local problems could be set up indepeTidently by the respective cities. It was pointed out that the present ordinances in many of the cities are antiquated and in need of revision and that the cities could save money as well as -the cont usion of varying ordinances by establishing uniform laws. Tom McCoy, executive secretary of the Utah Municipal League, and Pratt Kesler, assistant Salt Lake City attorney were present and proffered their help in the program. At the next meeting of the cities to be held in Springville, February 24, Mr. Kesler will present an estimated est-imated cost of setting up the uniform un-iform ordinances. It -was made clear, however, that no decision has been made as to who will be employed to do the work. . .. . --. ... . . . Indicating that other sections of the state are watching the outcome of the Utah county move, was the fact that the city manager and one councilman from Tooele were present pres-ent to listen to the discussion. |
