America's future status among nations will be determined by the development of her metallic resources. re-sources. This fact is attested to by the world-wide search for metals and the fact that no major discoveries have been made since early in the century. These, together with the gTOwing demand for copper, lead, rinc and steel are causing many nations to again take stock of their reserves. Mineral development should be a No. 1 must for the post-war era. Utah, one of the leading mining states in the nation should do every thing possible to encourage and stimulate the development of its resources. Mines badly depleted during the war when the demand for production produc-tion made necessary the curtailment curtail-ment of development with limited labor, are now struggling to rehabilitate re-habilitate themselves. With manpower man-power still short, the program of rehabilitation in Utah is progressing progress-ing slowly. Restrictive measures to permit a free flow of venture capital into mining ventures should be removed and taxes made comensurate with the gamble taken today in trying to bring prospect into the productive produc-tive stage. Like the one pictured above, all of the great mines were once mere prospects, and with proper encouragement en-couragement these small operations will restore Utah rapidly to a ,healthy mining status. |
