Show Carl B. Warren Submits Only Bid On Siphon Project The Carl B. Warren Co. of Pleasant Grove submitted the lone sbid for the construction of the Jordon narrows siphons of the Provo reservoir canal, Provo river project, when bids were opened Monday at the Provo Office of the U. S. reclamation bureau. The bid The Warren Co. now is constructing construct-ing the high pressure sections of the Salt Lake aqueduct. It is thought that scarcity of materials was one of the major factors in discouraging other companies from bidding. The two siphons will carry approximately ap-proximately 23 per cent of the Deer was for $404,430.90. I The bid is for construction of two siphons, one for the Provo Reservoir Canal Co. and the other for the Utah Lake Distributing Co., plus a pumping station for the latter company. The siphoned water would run the pumping station and pump water owned by the Utah Lake Distributing Co. from the Jordan river int- the company's distribution distrib-ution canahsaid L. R. Dunkley of Provo, project engineer. Approximately Approx-imately two feet of water from the Jordan river could be pumped for each foot of water that goes through the siphon, Mr. Dunkley said The company has 15,000 acre feet of Deer Creek water while the Provo Reservoir Canal Co. has 16,000 acre feet, he asserted. creek's total water across the Jordan Jor-dan river for distribution by the systems of the two companies in Utah and Salt Lake counties. After checking by the Provo bureau, the bid will be sent to Walker R. Young, chief engineer of the Denver bureau, who iwill in turn submit it to the Washington j D. C. office for letting of the bid or rejection. Work on the siphons is to be completed within 250 days. Work on the Provo reservoir canal will be done by the reclamation reclam-ation bureau, including the construction con-struction of 50 bridges and various types of structures for turnouts, checks, flumes, etc. This work, however, how-ever, will not start until October 1, when the irrigation season is fin- ished. |
