Show There is a definite need for a Community Sewer Project in Pleasant Grove, in order to properly prop-erly protect the health of the people of this city, Willard J. West, district Sanitarian of the Utah State Eoard of Health, told the members of the Lions Club and their wives at the semi-monthly meeting held at the Alpine Grill Wednesday evening. Facts were brought out at the , meeting that the present methods of disposal of waste were most dangerous to the health of the people of Utah County, and the conditions were getting worse each year. The speaker pointed out that Utah Lake was fast becoming contaminated con-taminated with disease germs coming com-ing from the various communities that are located nearby. The speaker discussed the various var-ious type of waste disposal methods meth-ods and brought out the fact that in one area of the city, cesspools would take care of the immediate needs of the home, while in another section of the community, cesspools cess-pools are inadequate and the entire community is faced with possible disease being spread from the area where disposal methods are inadequate. in-adequate. Carriers of disease are no respecters respect-ers of persons, and just because a man haas an adequate method of disposal of waste does not guarantee guar-antee him protection against a dreaded disease. The State Board of Health has definitely designated Utah County as a most menacing area, so far as need of Sewerage is concerned and they have promised their wholehearted support in backing the movement for a sewer and a sewer disposal unit. Methods of financing a sewer were also discussed by Mr. West, and the three methods discussed were general obligation bonds, special improvement bonds, and revenue producing bonds. The three methods'were generally combined to finance sewer systems. The speaker brought out the fact that communities where sewers sew-ers are installed are the ones that show healthy growth, and that valuations increase as the facilities increase. He also pointed out that progressive pro-gressive high type people, whose standards of living are high, will go to communities where the standards of living are in keeping with that which they are accustomed accust-omed and thus they add to and make for a better community. Mr. and Mrs. S. Christensen, who recently attended the Lions International Inter-national convention in San Francisco, Fran-cisco, made a fine report on the convention, expressing appreciat- ion tor naving Deen selected to attend, and reported that all phases of the big convention were enjoyed by them. They report that Utah had one of the smallest del-gations del-gations and that Utah was one of the few states that didn't have any literature describing the state's beautiful scenic attractions, and places of interest. President Junius West was in charge and the program was in charge of Lealand Clark, and his educational committee, members of which are J. LeRoy Thorne, Dr. G. Y. Anderson and S. W. Holton. Warren Kirk rendered two vocal numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Kirk. The 100 Percent Attendance meeting will be held on September 3 at the Alpine Grill. |
