Show Care Of Hose Suggested By Clothing Expert It is smart to wear dams, but it is smarter and more patriotic to make hose last longer by good care, is the opinion of Mrs. Susie S. Cook, clothing specialist of the Utah State Agricultural college extension service, who has several sensible suggestions on how to make hose serve the longest. Those who have good single nylon stockings left, but which do not match, can bleach these storings and v-c".ye tnem, thus- obtaining pairs, according to Mrs. Cook. For those who have come to rayons, ray-ons, here axe some of the do's and don't's of buying, wear and care: "When buying hose try to buy two pair of the same shade at once. Buy hose of the thread number to suit your purpose. Don't expect even 3 -thread hose to stand up under that two-mile walk you are taking each morning in your low-heeled, serviceable walking shoes," warns Mrs. Cook. Be sure your hose fit in both foot and leg, she adds. They will wear longer and be more comfortable comfort-able if you get your hose with a half-inch to spare in the foot. Always wash new hose before you wear them and as soon as possible pos-sible after taking them off. Perspiration Per-spiration deteriorates fibres. Usesuds of lukewarm water, soft water if possible, then squeeze suds through the hose. Never twist or rub. Rinse in lukewarm water, usually three wa'ters, until all soap is gone. Dry in the shade and away from radiators. radi-ators. Be particularly careful with rayon hose, cautions Mrs. Cook. This fabric fab-ric is weak when wet, and should be allowed to dry at least 24 hours before wearing. Dam worn places before they break through and guard against the common causes of snag rough hands, worn shoe linings, rough furniture, fur-niture, long, sharp and broken nails. When putting stockings on, roll the leg from top and toe and slip on over toes. Smooth heel in place and pull the stocking gently up the leg. Fasten supporters in the reinforced rein-forced part of the stocking top, making them loose enough so that the knee may bend without straining strain-ing the fabric. |
