Show Firemen Pondering Two Questions Will there be a community Santa? This question has been asked the members of the fire department who for some years past have taken upon their shoulders the no small task of seeing that Santa Claus visited vis-ited American Fork the afternoon before Christmas and left for each kiddie a treat. The firemen have wondered whether, with all the treats given the children by the various var-ious church organizations, etc., it is necessary to continue the community communi-ty tree custom, or whether some other form of entertainment would be just as welcome. Not many realize real-ize the effort necessary to not only raise the money necessary but the other preparations entailed. Accordingly the firemen have appointed ap-pointed a committee to contact the various city organizations and ascertain as-certain their opinion as to whether or not this custom should be continued contin-ued and to whot extent the citizens are willing to back the firemen in it. After all, the joy comes to all of our kiddies and why should all the responsibility re-sponsibility fall upon the firemen? What do you think? Another problem facing the firemen fire-men is that of the decorations on the community Christmas tree. In the past the fire laddies have dug up out of their own pockets in a number of instances to furnish the colored globes and the wiring of the tree. To their chagrin last year 34 colored globes disappeared from the tree, a number of them from branches too high for small children to reach. Te department is more than willing will-ing to decorate the tree but surely the citizens owe it to this public spirited group to see that older children chil-dren do not molest the decorations. The firemen are more than willing to decorate the tree but justly resent re-sent the destruction of their property. |
