Show Mrs. Lilly K. Brown and son, John, enjoyed Thanksgiving' dinner in Salt Lake as guesis of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Among those from this city who attended the funeral in Salt Lake Sunday of United States Inspector Samuel P. Cowley, slain by George (Baby Face) Nelson, notorious gangster gang-ster in the east, were Mrs. Ann L. Chipman, Mrs. Nellie C. Bassett, James H- Clarke and Dr. J. P. Ncyes. Mrs. Cowley, formerly was! Gaisford, with Mi.ss Dorothy Brown and Marvin Brown of Salt Lake, motored to Malad, Idaho, early the morning of Thanksgiving clay and spent the day visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Lee South (Orla Brown) and Mr. and Mrs. Russell South- They returned late that evening. j Mr. and Mrs- Ronald Bate entertained enter-tained Monday evening at their home in honor of their second wedding wed-ding anniversary. Progressive Bun-i co was played, Gilbert Shumwayj winning the first prize and Howard Timpson the consolation favor. A1 delicious supper was served at the small tables late in the evening. I The friends here of Miss Louise ( Firmage report that she recently was accepted as a member of the Trot-' Trot-' ters Club of the University of Utah, the initiation exercises having been i held last week. A baby girl was born November 19th to Mr. and Mrs. LawTence Ash- ton at their home. The babe is the I first grandchild of both sets of very I proud grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Erving Richlns, parents of the young mother who formerly was Miss Reva Riehins, and Mr. and Mrs. Orin lAsht-m, parents of the "dad". All j concerned are doing nicely. ! The Blue Birds, girls class of the ! First ward Primary Association, pre- pare d a tempting basket of Thanks-I Thanks-I giving goodies, assisted by their teachers, Miss Fern Greenwood and I Mrs. Lucile Stokes, which they took I to the home of Mrs. Annie Newton, a : widow of the ward, Wednesday. Mrs. Newton appreciated greatly the kindness of these young people and their cheering visit at her home. The visit here of Mrs. Sewell Hawkins Haw-kins was the occasion last Friday night for a jolly get-together party of a number of her friends at the home of her father, J. A. Holmes. Monte Carlo Whist was played at four tables, the prizes being won by Arvilla Devey and Lucy Shelley, after which dainty refreshments were served. Those attending in addition to Mrs. Hawkins were Mrs. Ross Buckwalter, Mrs. Emma Foster, Mrs. Harold Chipman, Miss Sadie Nelson, Miss Leona Kelly, Miss Edith Thornton, Thorn-ton, Miss Thelma Holmes, Mrs. Lillian Lil-lian C. Booth, Miss Mildred Baum, Miss Lucy Shelley, Miss Arvilla Devey, Dev-ey, Mrs. Walter Steffen, Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence Grant and Miss Lillie Shafter of this city; and Mrs. Melba de St. Joer of Salt Lake City. Mrs- Joseph Shelley enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner in Salt Lake with Mr. and Mrs. C. J- Chadwick. Friends of Rollo Miller will be glad to learn that he is feeling much better bet-ter f.fter a severe tussle with an attack at-tack cf quinsy. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse B. Birch spent Thanksgiving day in Salt Lake with Mr. Birch's mother, Mrs. R. W. Birch. Miss Lenore Crookston and T. With the gay colored lights strung in front of several of the business houses and the snow covered ground a spirit of holiday is mounting daily and is reflected in the increase in the number of shoppers who are heeding the warning "Do Your Christmas Shopping Early." The stores have decorated the interiors and the toy displays are attracting the children between school hours with a never failing lure. A large number of relatives and friends of the late James H. Clarence A. Grant, who for the past twelve years has been the representative rep-resentative of the Metropolitan Life Insurance company in this city, severed his connections with the company last week. Mr. Grant in November was elected to the office of clerk of Utah county and will take up his new duties in January. Alvin Monson of Pleasant Grove has been appointed by the company to succeed Mr. Grant as the company's com-pany's representative here and already al-ready has made the acquaintance of the majority of the policy holders. The many with whom Mr. Grant had had contact during his twelve years of service with the company wish him success in his new office. Mr. Grant, in turn, expresses the wish that the same courtesies extended ex-tended him may be offered the new agent by our townspeople. Mr. Mon-con Mon-con and his family will move here in the near future. Mr- Wm. Bergener, an assistant manager of the Salt Lake district, has spent the past week here helping help-ing Mr- Monson to get acquainted with the work. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Anderson are moving into the S. L. Anderson home in the Fourth ward recently vacated by Joseph Olsen and family. Mr. and Mrs- Frank Olsen of Bingham visited with Mr. and Mrs. Alma J- OLsen here on Thanksgiving day. Last Friday evening Mrs. Warren Boley entertained the B. B. Club ladies and Mrs. Thomas Barratt, special guests. Bridge was the main diversion. A delicious lunch was served to twenty. Mr. and Mrs. Israel Lott of Lehi had as their dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Timpson and son, Maurice, of this city; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Taylor of Idaho Falls, and "Grandma" Brown of Lehi. Dinner guests at the Alma J. Olsen Ol-sen home on Thanksgiving day were Mr- and Mrs. L. J. Batchelor of Salt Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Nichols of Riverton- Mr. and Mrs- Adolph Nielsen went in to Salt Lake to spend Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing with a daughter of Mrs. Nielsen. While visiting there Mrs. Nielsen was taken very ill and is yet unable to return home. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. McGrew and family are leaving in the very near future for Salt Lake City to make their home. Mr. McGrew's employment employ-ment has kept him in Salt Lake steadily for some time and he has been able to be here with his family but very little. Mrs. Alice Crookston, local beauty operator, acted as toastmistress at the banquet of the beauty operators of Utah County, held the night of November 27th at the Hotel Roberts Rob-erts in Provo. The party which also al-so included a hair style review and dance was sponsored by the Provo Beauty Operators of Provo. Seventy five were in attendance. During the past week a new furnace fur-nace has been installed in the public pub-lic library. The old furnace for the past two years has been giving considerable con-siderable trouble and with the early advent of winter the installation of a new one was made necessary. A stoker has been installed also, and the building now will be comfortably comfort-ably and evenly heated. Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral services ser-vices of Martin Hansen here Sunday Sun-day were G. Mr. and Mrs. Lon Dykman, all of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Alva Hansen, Sandy; James Hansen, Mrs- Minnie Norman, Nor-man, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Adams, of Lehi; Mr. antf Mrs. Lenard Adams, Mr- and Mrs. Donald Stubbs of Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Malcom Orr, Mr. and Mrs- Wilford Hansen, and Elmer Hansen, Magna; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hansen, Price; Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Ellis, Manila.
