Mrs- Jay Beck and two children ! are here visiting with Mrs. Beck's parents, Mr. and Mrs- Ray Ellison. The Becks have been living in Provo. Mr. Beck has accepted a position on the Salina High School faculty as chemistry and mathematics instructor in-structor and his wife and children j will join him there in the near fu- i ture. j Rehearsals are being held in pre- paration for the presentation this I month of a three-act comedy pla.y by the First ward. The play is entitled en-titled "The Red Headed Step Child" aend Is being directed by Mrs. Leo G. Meredith. Th-j play will be presented present-ed in all six wards of the stake as a part of the A'pine stake entertainment entertain-ment exchange program. Mrs. A. W. Clyde, Mrs. Elwyn Wride and Mrs- John W. Myers entertained en-tertained the employes of the three exchanges of the telephone company, com-pany, American Fork, Pleasant Grove and Lchi last Friday night. The party was held at the "home of Mrs- Myers, with twenty-five in attendance- Early in the evening a hot venison dinner was served-The served-The dining table was decorated with a bowl of orchid sweet peas and yellow yel-low roses in the center and with yellow yel-low tapers on each end. Following dinner games were enjoyed. Am. Fork Locals Mr;. R.iy Shelley and Mrs. Motvin Grant were hostesses to the members mem-bers of the Variety Club and their hu:-:banls at the Shelley heme at a Christmas party Thursday night of 1 a ; t week. The party was the annual Christmas gathering of the club and Hills were exchanged by all. Progressive Pro-gressive bridge was played, Mrs. George- Moss and Adair Bromley capturing the prizes. There were fourteen present, including Mr. and Mrs. Afton Steiner special guests. Mrs. Moral Steele celebrated her birthday last Saturday afternoon by having fourteen friends as guests at her home. Dinner was served early in the evening, sweet peas forming the table decoration. Christmas decorations also prevailed throughout through-out the house. Mrs. Steele was presented pre-sented with a number of lovely tokens tok-ens in remembrance of the day. Those invited were Mesdames J. E. Chadvvick, James Chipman, Lenard Chipman, Thomas A. Barratt, B. F. Mollctt, Lenard Pett, William Els-rnere, Els-rnere, William R. Hansen, Leland Mitchell, Reed H. Robinson, Roy Steele, Roy Greenwood and Miss Jane McPherson of this city; and Mrs. Rupcr of Provo. Mr. and Airs. Moral D. Steele en-.ertained en-.ertained at dinner New Year's day. Covers were laid for ten guests. Miss Clarice Bromley entertained nine of her friends at the Cosy Club at her home New Year's Eve following follow-ing the dance in the Apeilo hall. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Jean Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. T. He tig, Mr. and Mrs. Sanke Dixon, Clara. Peterson, Fern Bullock and Ferril Collett, all of Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Cunningham entertained at their home New Year's Eve following the dance. For a short time bridge was enjoyed at five tables, Mrs. Melvin Grant and Kenneth Brown winning the prizes. A delicious lunch -was then served to Messrs. and Mesdames Ray Shelley, Adair Bromley, George Moss, Afton Steiner, Frank Brown, Melvin Grant, Kenneth Brown, Clarence Grant, Mrs. Mate Earl and Miss Lillie Shaffer. Mrs. Fern Bedell of Salt Lake spent Saturday here with her mother, moth-er, Mrs. Martha H. Chipman. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Birk are enjoying en-joying a short visit in. California. They left here late last week and attended the annual Rose Bowl Tournament and football game in Pasadena. Niels Nelson and daughter, Mrs. Beth Jackson, and sons, Leo and Clyde and wife motored to Dividend New Year's day and spent the day visiting relatives. Mrs. Hannah Rhodes has gone to Eureka where she will spend the winter months with her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Rife and family. Mr. and Mrs. Duanne Harper of Pleasant Grove entertained at dinner din-ner Sunday night for Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A. Smith and children, Elaine, Wendell and Burnell Smith. Olsen of Pleasant Grove spent the week-end visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A. Smith and family. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Mantle and son of Magna, also spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Leo Nelson returned New Year's Eve from a week's visit in Boise, Idaho, with his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Goodwin. Mrs. Nelson Nel-son and small daughter remained for an additional week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pratt and son of McGill, Nevada, visited here Friday Fri-day with Mr. and Mrs. Moral D. Steele. The Pratts are close friends of Mr. and Mrs. Steele's daughter, Mrs. Roland Sabey in McGill. Among those, outside -of members of the family from here who attended attend-ed the funeral services of Lawrence Greenwood held in Salt Lake Sunday Sun-day were: Messrs and Mesdames K. J. Bird, L. B. Adamson, Glen. Taylor, A. F. Gaisford Jr., Wm. Chipman and T. A. Greenwood. A farewell social was held in Pleasant Grove New Year's Day for David Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sanford Walker of Pleasant Grove, who leaves soon on a mission to New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. Leo G. Meredith attended at-tended the annual ski tournament held on Ecker's Hill, Parley's canyon on New Year's day. Mrs. Orval C. Mercer left Friday morning last for Los Angeles to visit for a week or ten days with relatives there. Mrs. Mercer accompanied her nephew, Ruben Wagstaff, to the coast, Mr. Wagstaff having been on a holiday furlough from the U. S. Navy. I The birthday anniversary of Al- J bert S. Mott which occurred Decern- j ber 26th was the occason for a jolly j surprise arranged by his wife and j daughters which took place at thej Mctt residence that evening. Thirty three relatives and friends w;ere present and the time was enjoyably spent in games following which tasty tas-ty refreshments were served. A beautifully beau-tifully decorated birthday cake was an important part of the lunch. Honoring Mrs. Agnes Householder, the members of her family entertained entertain-ed Inst Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Berg. I An item overlooked last week was j the announcement of the death of Miss Helen Crooks, of Salt Lake, j daughter of Thomas Crooks of this! city, by a former marriage. Miss Crooks died in Salt Lake of complications compli-cations following an operation for ; appendicitis. Funeral services were j held in Payson Monday, December j 24th, and interment was made there. 1 Anderson Bros, were in charge of the j interment. Mrs. Sadie Bromley has opened club rooms in her apartments in the Adair Bromley home on the east state highway and is prepared to assist as-sist small or large groups in entertainment. enter-tainment. The spacious rooms have been arranged so that the guests may be served at one large table or at small tables, and as many as fifty can be accomodated. The hostesses may arrange for their own luncheons or may be served by the club hostess. The .name "The Cozy Club" has been selected and reservations may be made any time now. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A. Smith attended at-tended a party at Pleasant Grove Friday night, given by Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. Charles J. Olsen.
