Show Ten Years Ago Now (Taken from files of May 28, 1927) ,: Raymond Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Peterson of this city, won the M. I. A. public speaking contest of the Utah, Alpine, Kolob, and Wasatch stakes held in Provo at the Utah Stake Tabernacle, Sunday Sun-day evening. Mr. Peterson's subject sub-ject was, "God the Artist." It was an original talk and received very favorable commendation by the judges and audience. Ten Years Ago Now The Chamber of Commerce has t erected two "Welcome" signs on each of the highway approaches. Through the courtesy of Mr. Sterner on the south boundary, the welcome signs have been given prominent location on the State highway. Ten Years Ago Now The plans for the annual Strawberry Straw-berry Day are going forward. Pony express rider to stage rodeo aryi Indian dance. The ball park committee com-mittee met with E. H. Gardner and Sons Tuesday night to discuss the special rodeo entertainment for Strawberry Day. The contract was previously awarded to this family. Mr. Gardner's daughter was the lady who rode the large black horse up the capitol steps in Salt Lake and j deliver the document at the time of ; the pony express race across the I State of Utah. Mr. Gardner and j his family are all expert horsemen and promise one of the greatest 1 rodeo events in history. Ten Years Ago Now Some of the strawberry growers have had a spell of the "blues" for the past two weeks. In inspecting their beautiful strawberry fields they find weevil working in the crown of the plants. The plants are first noticed to begin to turn yellow yel-low and finally die. Some of the berries mature but are small and look shriveled, and are covered with seeds. |
