KAXGAKOO COUKT TRIES JOLSON Al Jolson now knows how it feels to be tried by a kangaroo court. The vagabonds' tribunal sequence, one of the most spectacular phases of Jolson's' United Artists comedy, "Hallelujah, I'm a Bum," which comes to the Alhambra theatre on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, was filmed and recorded to the accompaniment accom-paniment of a fortypiece symphony orchestra, with hundreds of supporting sup-porting players on the set. In the screen story, adapted from an original by Ben Hecht, Jolson plays a city vagabond chieftain who is haled into kangaroo court by his ragged followers for falling in love and going to work. Supporting personalities in "Hallelujah, "Hal-lelujah, I'm a Bum" include Madge Evans, Frank Morgan, Harry Lang-don, Lang-don, Chester Conklin and scores of others. Jolson's latest song hits and the revolutionary "photographic music" which runs throughout the production, produc-tion, were . composed by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. ALHAMBRA THEATRE PROGRESSING UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT The Alhambra Theatre, opened under new management the first of the year, is putting, on fine programs pro-grams for the entertainment of the public. Manager Harold Woot-ton Woot-ton says the people of Pleasant Grove want the best in pictures and are going to see the best. He is well pleased with the patronage thus far and. is prepared to give the best programs. I Harold understands the operation !of the machines and is genial and willing to please the patrons of the show. Mrs. Wooton is working with him to take care of the comfort of the patrons. With the finest small show house south of Salt Lake, Pleasant Grove ought to enjoy the splendid programs given under the new management. o : Pleasant Grove News Lifelong Resident Called by Death Delbert Walker, 63, son of pion-er pion-er Henson Walker, and Mary Green Walker, died at his home at 5:30 p. m. Wednesday, following an illness ill-ness of several months duration of heart trouble and complications. He was bora June 27, 1871, in Pleasant Grove and has lived here all of his life. He was a successful fanner and stockman. He was a staunch member of the L. D. S. church. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Park Walker, and the following sons and daughters: Warren, Martell, Oran, Dean, Deral, and Mrs. Perry Walker, all of Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Florence Brown, Mrs. Orpha Smith, Mrs. Ellen Rhodeback, ' and Guy Walker, all of Provo; Vern Walker of Boise, Idaho; also 20 grandchildren grandchild-ren and one great grandchild; two brothers, William H. Walker and Ezra F. Walker, both of Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be held at twelve o'clock noon Sunday, in the Timpanogos Stake tabernacle. VANGUARDS PLAN BASKETBALL SERIES "Vanguards of the Timpanogos stake met at the high school build-j ing Tuesday. They drew up the following fol-lowing rules and schedule which will be followed in playing a series of league games. The ag?s at which Vanguards may play in league games shall be 15-16-17. To remain eligible each Vanguard Van-guard must attend three meetings out of each four held. Vanguards who have played the OLD STARS DEFEAT B. Y. U. FACULTY O A gams that was full of thrills and lots of fun was played Monday evening at Provo between Pleasant Grove Old Stars, and the B. Y. U. faculty members. The lineup from Pleasant Grove included George Gourley, Lee Christiansen, Verl Christiansen, Shelby West, Bernard Walker, Ralph Smith, Merlyn Wad-ley, Wad-ley, Vance West and Fred Richards.
