Show ORKNEY FISHERIES Not content to harvest from the land alone, natives of the Orkney islands have turned also to the sea. Somewhat different from their neighbors neigh-bors of the Shetland islands fishermen fisher-men who farm n little the Orcadians are farmers who fish a little. But this minor industry has grown to such an extent that 200 sailing vessels ves-sels are used, necessitating a fishing crew of 435 regular fishermen and 44 employed in other duties. Herring Is the most common fish in the markets of the Orkneys, and lobsters are shipped to the dining tables of London. |
