Show Poultry Plant Has Record V eek For Egg Shipments TMg Increase In Poultry Indicate'1. For 1930. Iast week,, the highest point of production ever reached in a single week in American Fork, was attained attain-ed by the American Fork branch of the Utah Poultry Producers' Association. Associa-tion. For the week ending Saturday, February 15, 2315 cases of eggs were loaded, making it possible during the week to ship a full car every day. This information was given by Manager Man-ager Steffen of the local plant. In some instances, during the last week, said Mr. Steffen, two cars a day were shipped. It has been the experience in past years to reach the highest point of production the first week in April, and in consideration of this fact, the local plant should reach close to 3,000 cases per week by April 1st. Feeds also for the year have showed show-ed a decided increase approximately 130 per cent above last year. Cars are moving to the plant at the rate of one and two every day. The sales of this commodity will average between be-tween 3000 and 4000 bags per week. The plant also is shipping in an enormous amount of case and filler supplies, until at the present time the association is being recognized as the only real large shipper of such commodities in the state. In the Lehi district, which is a part of American Fork plant, there has been received within the last week seven cars of lumber, all shipped ship-ped in by the association for poultry-men poultry-men in that section. From all indications, indi-cations, there should be an increase in production next year there of 50 per cent over this year. The American Fork branch has sold slightly over a half-million baby chicks, which are commencing to arrive ar-rive in large quantities. This is only a small portion of the 3,000,000 baby chicks booked by the state association associa-tion this year. A very favorable reaction made in the market within the last week brings the New York price of eggs from 38 cents up to 51 cents. This year is characteristic of similar conditions con-ditions which existed two years ago when the price of eggs for February was in excess of that of January. This sudden marked trend will produce pro-duce a favorable summer outlook and has a tendency to hold the prices for the entire summer. There is employed at the local plant between 30 and 40 persons. The plant averages 25 regular employees for the year, bringing the payroll into in-to American Frok from this source alone to between $30,000 and $35,000 a year. o |
