Show Warning Issued ; On Postof f ice ! Problem! During the past several months ! certain individuals in our communi- ty have taken the liberty to make our Post Office a hang out for loafing, loaf-ing, conversation and mischief. This has made it necessary for our post- i master, by authorization from the Federal Government, to lock the office each evening at 6:00 p. m. i Thus making it impossible for citizens citi-zens to get mail when convenient. From the beginning of history certain rights have been recognized. At first these were in main private but were later divided into public ! as well as private rights. It is well recognized by the law that every right whether public or private imposes im-poses upon all others a duty to respect re-spect and observe it. Failure to do so by any individual constitute a crime and is punishable by prosecution prosecu-tion instituted by the state subjecting subject-ing the offenders to fine or imprisonment impri-sonment or both. Some time ago the city marshall arrested five persons, three of whom were CCC boys and two Pleasant Grove girls. The boys were turned over to the CCC officers and the ' girls cautioned about the seriousness I of the offense and released. Had they been turned over to the federal authorities for prosecution there is no doubt but they would have beenj sent to the penitentiary. The city officials have been cautious cau-tious about turning our citizens over to Postoffice authorities because we realize what the consequences will be. However, the time has come when we must take action and this article is to give warning that no leniency will be shown in any future case. Our officers have been instructed in-structed to arrest any individual who visits the office unless attending attend-ing strictly to business. Parents who have children visiting the office for any purpose other than to get mail are warned to caution cau-tion them against this rjractice. It is regretted that such action must be taken but if this problem is not handled by the city authorities authori-ties it will become necessary for the postmaster to post a notice of reward re-ward for any person turning in the names of those guilty of misusing our postoffice, and in this event there would be only one procedure to follow, and that would be to turn these persons over to the Federal Postal officers. Uncle Sam will not permit any interference with government gov-ernment property. Mayor Lyean Johnson. o |
